Through many conversations that I’ve held with clients, actual or potential, I’ve pinpointed various doubts and uncertainties that may sway you to let me help you with your translations. You’re bound to be familiar with them:
- “I don’t know if you’ll translate it properly”
- “I’ve had bad experiences in the past”
Are your fears or misgivings reflected on the list?
Below I address these doubts, which I’m sure you’ll be able to relate to:
1. “I don’t know if you’ll translate it properly”
This is a huge misgiving, and perhaps the most important, or at least the one I hear most often…
As you can see in my LinkedIn profile, I’ve been translating for many years.
What is more, having studied engineering and physics, I have a specialty that is forged in technical translation, especially telecommunications, energy, electronics, audio, video, software…
I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that clients place great value on my mastery of technical jargon. It’s not just a matter of translating, but rather of understanding what is written. I sometimes spot mistakes in the source document, which I duly report to my client. Don’t get me wrong: I can’t claim to know as much about your products or market as you, but from a technical point of view, my translations are amongst the best.
I’m not going to lapse into narcissism; there is no such thing as the perfect translation, I know that, but a few minor tweaks to my translation will be enough to make it perfect for you.
Plus, my translation is checked by a professional translator, who reviews it from a linguistic and business point of view.
If your niche in the market does not match my specialties, we have other translators who help us, specialising in mechanics, geology and so forth.
2. “I’ve had bad experiences in the past”
I know where you’re coming from… I call it post-traumatic syndrome.
I understand you because I’ve also had issues with some translators and rightly chose never to work with them again.
Listen to this: I’m so sure about the quality of what I can deliver that I’m prepared to offer you a satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy with the service, if you don’t like it, you don’t pay.
As simple as that!
“I already have a translator”
This is not a fear, it’s a fact: I only mention it because it may be coupled with:
- uncertainty, because you wonder whether you have the best possible solution
- or bias, because you believe you have the best possible solution
You’ll have to decide whether it’s in your interest to try other options.
If things are going fine as they are, don’t rock the boat, because a good translator is a gem that you should keep and treasure.
It’s very simple:
Are you doing ok?
Then don’t change!
Do you think there is clearly room for improvement?
Then look for other options.
Note: Another issue may be that you need a backup translator in case your regular translator gets sick or takes some time off just when you need them.
And I have nothing else to say.
Inevitably, it’s up to you…

Conclusions
In this article, I hope I have touched on all possible doubts and uncertainties you may have. If not, don’t hesitate to call me or send me a message and we can talk about any point that I have failed to mention.
I completely understand all the ifs and buts you may have as regards working with me.
- I hope I have gained your trust based on my vast experience in technical translation and as an active engineer.
- I believe my satisfaction guarantee speaks for itself.
- I’m aware that the greatest inertia can often be achieved by translating in-house, and I’m not here to try to make you change your mind, just to say that if you’re looking for something different, I’m convinced I can help you.
Now it’s your turn to weigh things up and to look for information.
